Mr. Shearer practices in the areas of general real estate, zoning, and construction law and related litigation, as well as general business law. He has served as a certified construction and commercial arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association since 1975.

In addition to his law practice, Mr. Shearer has served as adjunct professor of law at Davenport University, Grand  Rapids Community College, and Thomas M. Cooley Law School's Grand Rapids campus. Mr. Shearer has also held leadership positions with the Metropolitan YMCA of Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Board of Education, Clark Retirement Community, the Bay View Association, the Grand Rapids Student Advancement Foundation, and Albion College.
